I love books. Almost every two weeks I go to the library and search for something new and interesting to read. My favorites are nonfiction books with interesting titles. Last week I found very good book:” The right words at the right time” by Marlo Thomas. The book is a collection of the true life stories, how the right words said at the right time changed peoples life.
And this book bring me back in time to that awful day, when I was diagnosed with cancer and I want to tell you how one nurses words saved my live.
After the doctor told me, that I have a golf ball size tumor in the middle of my chest, I was sure that I’m going to die very soon. The doctor said, that I should stay in the hospital for more test, and with the radiation and chemo therapy they can probably kill or shrink the tumor. But I didn’t believe, that I can be cured, I just want to go home and die peacefully on my couch. So the doctor left me alone in the cold room.
I was stoned, paralyzed by the thoughts of the horrible future.
And than the nurse come in to my room, shoved some stuff around, than come to me, look into my eyes and said those exact words: “You know, every day some seek people are getting cured, and some healthy are dying”. And she left the room. And I was amazed how right she was. And I know, that those words saved my life. Thank you nurse (or Angel?), you planted the seed of hope in my mind!
So when the doctor come again to my room about 10 minutes later, I was ready to listen to the doctors orders. And I was able to make plans for the near future about what I can do, how I can help myself to get strong and win this battle. And today, over two years later, I’m still strong and winning.
